AU Cross Country Program Welcomes Deep, Talented Class

Ashland University cross country coach Trent Mack is accustomed to designing training plans that include heavy volume.

The fourth-year head coach has followed that program with his recruiting plan. This current group of recruits has depth and talent unlike any in recent Ashland history.

"This is by far the largest incoming class that I've ever had," noted Mack. "Not only does this class have a tremendous amount of ability, but it has a great range of abilities. We should be able to add depth in all middle distance and distance events at both the conference and NCAA level.

"This incoming group will join an already very competitive squad, but I believe we will have some new individuals that can help us immediately with the possibility to score points at the GLIAC Championships and even advance to the NCAA meet," added Mack. "Returning such a strong squad with great leadership should help us adjust quickly with the larger numbers."

The AU men's cross country team has reached the NCAA Championships for two straight years. Last fall, the Eagle men tied for ninth at nationals.
