Box Score 2 Ashland University's baseball team began the northern part of its 2015 schedule with two wins on Saturday (March 14) – 7-2 and 8-6 – against Cedarville in Florence, Ky.
In Game 1, junior Jake Baldwin earned the win by striking out eight and allowing just two hits and two walks over five innings. Sophomore Brandyn Sittinger struck out seven and allowed three hits, two runs and two walks over the final four innings to earn the save.
Ashland broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning. Senior Austin Walts was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, junior Blake Bellman was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, junior Nick Edwards had a 2-for-4, two-RBI day and sophomore Adam Vasil finished 2-for-3 with a double.
In the nightcap, junior Art Warren tossed the first six innings for the victory. He struck out five, and allowed four hits and four walks. Sophomore Cory Teachout got the final out for the save.
The big Eagle hits in Game 2 came from sophomore Joey Gonzalez (two-run inside-the-park home run, 3-for-4, double, 3 RBIs) and senior Stephen James (three-run homer). Junior Mackenzie Hampshire was 2-for-4 with a double, and senior Kyle Brooks was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Ashland (10-4) is slated to open its home schedule on March 21-22 in a four-game Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference set against Northwood.
