Eagles defeated Dragons in nine-inning game

Eagles move to 26-13 overall

The Ashland University baseball team defeated the Tiffin Dragons in a final score of 7-6 as they rallied in the ninth inning to secure the victory.
As the Eagles trailed 6-4 entering the final inning, Billy Howard pushed the Eagles momentum with an RBI single to make it a one-run game.
Later in the inning, Sean Krueckberg came through for the Eagles with a two RBI single up the middle allowing the Eagles to bring in winning runs and handing them the walk off victory.
Despite the lack of hits from the Eagles, sitting at five, the Eagles made them count.  They also drew ten walks which aided in keeping runners on base and creating scoring opportunities.
On the mound, Ben Zink earned the win helping the Eagles keep the team within reach before their late comeback.  Dragons Brock Polilli took the loss after giving up final runs in the ninth.
The Dragons had six hits and held the lead in the late game but couldn't hold the Eagles off in the final inning.
During the game, Head Baseball Coach John Schaly was recognized for his 1,000 career wins at Ashland University.
Additionally, this victory creates nostalgia for the Eagles as they look back at the 1976 team that tied for a school record and earned an NCAA East Regional berth coaches by Schaly.  They also caused upset for top-seeded teams allowing the program to secure their first postseason victory.
Then, in 2006 Schaly also led the team to the World Series allowing them to go 47-17.  Schaly's legacy with the Eagles is a long one and these 1,000 victories only highlight that.
The Eagles now move to 26-13 overall and 14-8 in conference play.
They'll next take on the Dragons once again on Sunday, April 19 at Tomassi Stadium and Donges Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex beginning at 1:00 P.M.
