The Ashland University baseball team has begun a four-game set against the Tiffin University Dragons with two wins.
On Friday, April 17, the Eagles played host to the Dragons from Tomassi Stadium and Donges Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex, downing them in both games on Friday afternoon. The first, was won in the late-stages, 3-2, while the second was comfortably controlled as they coasted to a 6-1 result.
With the wins, the Eagles move to 26-13 overall and 14-8 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.
After falling behind early in game one and trailing 2-1 into the eighth inning, the Eagles delivered in the clutch.
Collin Overholt came through with a two-run single to give Ashland the lead, pushing them ahead in the late stages of the outing.
The pitching staff held strong the rest of the way, with
Chase Carter closing the door to earn the save.
Jackson Grine gave Ashland six solid innings as the starter, allowing just one run while striking out seven.
Game two saw Ashland take control early and never look back.
Chris Franks led the offense with multiple hits, while
Max Albert and
Nate King each drove in runs.
On the mound,
Drew Becker was dominant, tossing six innings and striking out nine while allowing just one run.
Up next, Ashland and Tiffin will meet at 4:00 p.m. EST on Saturday, April 18, for game three of the series.
