AU Baseball Records 17 Runs in High-Scoring Affair Against Ohio Dominican

The Eagles and Panthers Played in a Mid-Week Non-Conference Bout

If it wasn't for video proof, it would be hard to believe.

On Tuesday, April 14, the Ashland University baseball team collided with the Ohio Dominican Panthers in a mid-week non-conference bout from Donges Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex.

Ashland wasted no time answering an early deficit, as Collin Overholt and Ryan Shimek opened the bottom of the first inning with back-to-back home runs to take control. That momentum carried into a six-run second inning, highlighted by a two-run homer from Drew Stevens, giving the Eagles an 8-1 advantage early in the outing.

From there, the offense never slowed down. They tacked on one run in the sixth, four runs in the seventh and two runs in the eighth. While the Panthers did have little moments where it seemed like they may somehow, someway claw back into the game, they weren't able to.

The Eagles never took their foot off the gas, finishing with 20 hits on the day. Overholt led the way with a perfect 5-for-5 performance, including a home run and four runs scored. Stevens drove in five runs on four hits, while Shimek added four hits and three RBI in a dominant showing at the plate.

On the mound, Brody Saunders earned the win in relief, tossing 3.1 innings while allowing just one run and striking out five. In total, Ashland showcased four pitchers.

With the win, the Eagles are now 23-14 on the campaign and riding high into the final few games of the 2026 regular season.

Up next, the Eagles will take on the Tiffin University Dragons in a four-game set at home from Donges Field. The two sides will square away on Friday, April 17, at 3:00 p.m. EST for game one of the series.
