The Ashland University baseball team dropped a pair of games Saturday (April 11) at Findlay. The Oilers took the opener, 6-1 and prevailed in nightcap, 3-1.
The first game was a back-and-forth affair through four innings. Ashland took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a Sean Krueckeberg single to left that scored Collin Overholt. Findlay answered with a run in the bottom of the frame, scoring on a passed ball.
The Oilers went ahead to stay, 2-1 with a single run in the second. Two more tallies by UF in the fourth proved to be too much for the Eagles. AU had four hits, none over the last three innings.
Griffin Ailes took the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, over the front four innings. He was touched for eight hits. David Smith pitched the final two innings.
UF's Ethan Mohr raised his record to 4-1 by allowing a run on three hits in seven innings. Colin Becker earned the save.
AU ace Drew Becker started Game 2 and while he suffered his first loss of the season, he gave a quality performance. Becker went five innings, allowing three runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out nine. Both UF runs scored on sacrifice flies. Becker is 4-1.
Carson Mellott last 4.2 innings to get the win. He allowed a run on four hits. Mellott is 5-1. Camden Tuttle pitched 2.1 scoreless innings to register the save.
The Eagles and Oilers had five hits each.
No player in the game had more than one hit.
Ashland entered Saturday's doubleheader riding a three-game winning streak.
The Eagles are 21-13, 10-8 in GMAC action. Findlay is 24-11 and 15-3.
The two teams will tangle in another twinbill at Fifth Third Field on Sunday (April 12).
