Maceo Williams has been one of the most impressive college basketball players in the nation this year.
And everyone is beginning to take notice.
On Sunday, Feb. 15, Williams was named a top 50 player on the 2025-26 Bevo Francis Award Watch List. Just a few weeks ago, on Jan. 15, he was named one of the top 100 players, with his continued efforts keeping him in contention for the prestigious award.
The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented to one college basketball player who has had the finest season overall, covering Division II, III and NAIA. Those that are included in the list are considered based on season and individual statistics, achievements, awards and personal character.
Through 25 games this season, Williams has been a stalwart for the Eagles. He's currently averaging 18.7 points and 8.3 rebounds a game, while shooting 60.4% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc. He's also posted 24 steals and 18 total blocks.
In the 2024-25 campaign, he was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year, and there's a strong case that he might repeat with such honors. This year, he leads the conference in scoring and rebounding, sits second in field goal percentage and 14th in blocked shots. He's also played the fifth-highest average of minutes per game, showcasing just how important he is to the Eagles.
With three regular-season games to go, Ashland sits 18-7 overall and 12-5 in conference play, as they begin looking towards the conference tournament. It will begin in just over two weeks.
Next up on the docket, though, is the Malone Pioneers. The Eagles will travel to Canton, Ohio, to take on the Pioneers on Thursday, Feb. 19. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. EST
