Maceo Williams doesn't get bored with reruns.
Monday (Marc. 23), it was announced that the Ashland University senior forward was named to the National Basketball Coaches of America (NABC) Midwest District First Team. This is the second consecutive year Williams has garnered this honor.
Earlier this year, Williams was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Player of the Year for the second straight year. He's been a first team all-conference pick for two years running and has been All-G-MAC for three straight seasons. He's been on the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner's Association All-Midwest Region team for two consecutive years.
"Maceo is one of the best players to ever put on the Ashland jersey," said AU head coach John Ellenwood. "He has elevated our program to a new standard. No player in the region received more defensive attention than Maceo.
"The best part about coaching Maceo is that as good of a player as he was for us, he was a better person," said Ellenwood. "He's truly a special student-athlete."
Williams averaged 18.8 ppg., and 8.2 rpg., this season. He started all 31 games and shot 60.1 percent from the field. He led the Eagles to a 20-11 record, 13-7 in the GMAC. Ashland advanced to the GMAC Final Four and received an invitation to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament at Walsh. The Eagles' season ended against Grand Valley State in the first round of the regional tournament.
During his career, Williams was remarkably consistent. This season follows a junior year that saw him tally 20.6 ppg., 8.9 rpg., and shoot 63.8 percent from the floor.
Williams ends his career second in career points (1,944) and third in career rebounds (885) at Ashland.
Joining Williams on the all-district first team are Quintero Barnett from Walsh, Dylan Kuehl from Northern Michigan, Marcus Tomashek from Michigan Tech and Rockhurt's Jaylen Wesley.
