A strong season came to a close on Saturday, March 14.
In the opening round of the NCAA Regional Tournament, the Ashland University Eagles men's basketball team fell to the Grand Valley State Lakers, 59-45. The game was played at the Cecchini Center, on the campus of Walsh University. The loss concludes the Eagles' season at a mark of 20-11 on the year, 13-7 in conference play.
Senior forward Maceo Williams led the charge for Ashland scoring 16 points, with sophomore forward Jason Moore putting up the second-most with seven.
The Eagles' biggest struggle was knocking down shots, going 32.7% from the field and 8.7% from beyond the arc. What kept them in the game, though, was lockdown defense as they held the Lakers to barely north of 30% and 20% in their respective shooting splits. They also held the Lakers to just three players in double figures, with the leading mark being just 11 points.
The Eagles entered the tournament with an at-large bid, following a Great Midwest Athletic Conference championship tournament run that concluded in the semi-final round.
