It's been a successful trip to Florida for Ashland University's men's golf team through the first 36 holes at the Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff.
On Friday (March 10) in Wesley Chapel, Fla., sophomore
Matthew McMullen moved into a tie for first place individually, while the Eagle men as a whole remain the front-runners in the nine-team tournament.
McMullen fired a second-round 70 on Friday, his collegiate low, and finished with two birdies on the last five holes. His 69-70—139 is tied with Kade Cannon of St. Thomas, Fla., for top honors with 18 holes to go.
As a team, Ashland is 283-298—581, nine shots better than second-place McKendree (300-290—590) and 11 shots ahead of third-place St. Thomas (294-298—592).
NOTABLES
- Senior Logan Thomas had three birdies on Friday and is tied for fifth at 71-75—146, and freshmen Dylan Dunn (three Friday birdies, 74-74—148) and Carter Mishler (two Friday birdies, 69-79—148) are tied for ninth.
- Another senior, Andrew Kolar, is 25th after a Friday birdie and a card of 76-79—155, while sophomore Tyler Gillespie is tied for 36th at 75-88—163.
