The first day of Wayne State's Motor City/Frank Jawor Invite was contested on Sunday (Oct. 9) in Dearborn, Mich., and Ashland University's men's golf team is eighth in the 11-team field through 18 holes.
WHAT HAPPENED
- The Eagles' first-round team score of 321 is 25 strokes behind leader Grand Valley State (296). Tiffin is second (302), and the host Warriors are third (303).
- Freshman Carter Mishler and sophomore Tyler Gillespie were Ashland's pacesetters on Sunday. Mishler ended Day 1 with a 78 and four birdies and is tied for 18th individually, while Gillespie also had a 78 and is tied for 18th.
- Sophomore Matthew McMullen is tied for 40th after an opening-round 82 and two birdies, senior Logan Thomas is tied for 46th after an 83 and one birdie, and senior Andrew Kolar is tied for 50th following an 84 and one birdie.
