The second day of the Youngstown State Mid Major Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 30) continued to feature nationals marks and first-place finishes for Ashland University's men's and women's indoor track and field teams.
For the No. 2-ranked men, junior
Tim Rumas not only won the men's 200-meter dash at 21.34 seconds, but that time was a new Invitational record, and a new provisional mark for 2021 NCAA Division II indoor nationals, March 12-13 in Birmingham, Ala. Junior
Travis Marx was second at 22.44 seconds.
Senior
Travis Moore won the men's heptathlon with 5,023 points, also good for the new provisional mark.
In the men's 400 dash, the Eagles went 1-2-3 – senior
Channing Phillips won (48.94 seconds), followed by sophomore
Brayden Chaney (49.72 seconds) and freshman
Bobby Crenshaw (51.36 seconds).
Senior
Steven Kapes took the top spot in the men's mile at 4:14.36, while classmate
Ian Johnson did the same in the men's 3,000 run (8:22.79). The men's shot put saw freshman
Cole LaRoche win with a top heave of 15.87 meters/52-feet-1, while sophomore
Wesley Seyfang took third (13.69 meters/44-feet-11).
Ashland's men's 4x400 relay team was third in 3:30.27, and junior
Jake Hall was third in the men's 800 run at 1:54.22.
The No. 15-ranked women saw sophomore
Miyuki Sugiyama win the high jump at 1.61 meters/5-feet-3¼. Freshman
Kelsey Kinsley was runner-up in the women's shot put (13.16 meters/43-feet-2¼), while the women's 4x400 relay team was second in 3:58.25.
In the women's 60 hurdles, freshman
Ashleigh Bowker was third in 9.27 seconds.
Ashland's men and women are slated to compete on Feb. 12 at the Grand Valley State Big Meet.
