Amidst tough and very windy conditions on Thursday (March 5), Ashland University's men's golf team played its first round at the Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff in Wesley Chapel, Fla.
Leading the Eagle contingent in the spring opener was senior Patrick Steffen, who fired a 77 in a round which included birdies on holes No. 2 and 17. Steffen is tied for third place after the first 18 holes of competition.
Sophomore Luke Tanner (tied for 10th) fired an 80, and rounding out the five who played in team competition were freshman Andrew Kolar (84, two birdies), junior Ben Jones (86, one birdie) and freshman Jake Amann (87, one birdie).
Playing as individuals were freshman Caden Gallagher, who had two birdies en route to a 79, and freshman Logan Thomas, who had one birdie on the way to an 84.
Ashland's men ended Thursday with a team score of 327. Ferris State leads the pack at 311, followed by Purdue Northwest (320) and Northern Michigan (326).
The Eagles will play their second 18 holes in Florida on Friday (March 6).
