Friday's (Dec. 4) season-opening indoor track and field meet at Tiffin was a long time coming for Ashland University's men's and women's squads.
The Tiffin University Challenge was contested on Friday, and it was the Eagles' first competition against other programs since March 1 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We opened half-squad very well," said Ashland head coach
Jud Logan. "Standouts were
Alena Williams and
Rachel Miller in the hurdles.
Lizzie (Weimer) in the shot and the 1-2-3 finish in the weight highlighted the day for women.

Travis Marx had a nice double in the long jump and 60 meters.
Ian Johnson in the mile highlighted the men.
Ethan Tabor had a nice triple in long, triple and hurdles."
Johnson, a senior, won both the mile run (4:18.11) and 800-meter run (1:56.75), while another senior,
Trevor Bassitt, took the 60 hurdles in 7.79 seconds.
Placing second were junior Marx in the long jump (6.76 meters/22-feet-2 1/4) and 60 dash (6.92 seconds), sophomore Tabor in the triple jump (14.15 meters/46-feet-5 1/4), senior
Brent Fairbanks in the weight throw (20.47 meters/67-feet-2), junior
Storm Elsesser in the high jump (1.98 meters/6-feet-6), and senior
Steven Kapes in the mile (4:20.43).
Earning third-place showings were Tabor in the long jump (6.73 meters/22-feet-1), junior
Cameron Shifflet in the 60 hurdles (8.36 seconds), and freshman
Noah Koch in the weight throw (18.53 meters/60-feet-9 1/2).
On the women's side, Ashland was paced by the women's weight throw crew of junior
Carrol Pauley (first, 18.72 meters/61-feet-5), senior
Gianna DiPippo (second, 18.35 meters/60-feet-2 1/2) and junior
Taylor Kroll (third, 18.09 meters/59-feet-4 1/4).
Runner-up finishes were earned by junior Weimer in the shot put (14.06 meters/46-feet-1 1/2), senior Miller in the 60 hurdles (9.19 seconds), and freshman Williams in the 60 dash (7.81 seconds).
