Box Score 2 The AU baseball team upped its record to 5-1 on Saturday (Mar. 9) with a pair of wins over Missouri-St. Louis in Auburndale, Fla.
Ashland won the first game, 3-2. The Eagles made the most of four hits to get the victory. Senior righty Eric Vaughan (Delta, Ohio/Owens C.C.) got the win. He's 2-0. The save went to senior Zach Botjer (Deshler, Ohio/Sinclair C.C.).
In the second game the Eagles banged out 14 hits and won, 9-6. Third baseman Wade Kaido (Zanesville, Ohio) was 2-for-5 with a triple and four RBI. Shortstop Austin Walts (Amherst, Ohio/Amherst Steele) was 3-for-4. Outfielder Austin Erb (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover), catcher Adam Grace (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Erie C.C.) and second baseman Matt Gundlach (Monroeville, Ohio/Sandusky Perkins) had two hits each.
Senior right-hander Brad Thomas (Orrville, Ohio) pitched 6.2 innings and was the winning pitcher. He allowed six runs - five earned - on nine hits. Thomas walked three and struck out seven. Lefty Cole Hudson (Dresden, Ohio/Zanesville) retired the final batter and notched his first save of the season.
