The Ashland University baseball team upped its record to 2-1 Sunday (Mar. 6) with a 12-2 win over Concordia-St. Paul. This was the second day of Ashland's spring trip to Florida.
The Eagles rapped out 15 hits in the win. AU scored four times in the fourth inning to go in front, 5-1. The Eagles added two more tallies in the sixth for a commanding, 7-1 lead.
Outfielder Evan Melendez (Amherst, Ohio/Steele) and first baseman Austin Erb (Strasburg, Ohio/Hanover) both went 2-for-4. Freshman infielder Tyler Gray (Plain City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) was 2-for-3 with a double and junior catcher Ian McNichol (Reston, Va./Mongomery Rockville C.C.) was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI.
Right-hander Eric Vaughan (Delta, Ohio/Owens C.C.) made his first start for the Eagles and pitched seven innings. Vaughan allowed a run on eight hits. He walked two and struck out eight. Freshman right-hander David Devine pitched the last two innings.
Ashland will play a doubleheader against Wheeling Jesuit on Monday (Mar. 7).
