The Ashland University women's lacrosse team is returning to the NCAA Division II playoffs.
Sunday evening (May 3), the NCAA announced this year's playoff field and Ashland is the fifth seed in the Midwest Region.
Ashland earned the automatic NCAA berth from the G-MAC by virtue of a 22-6 triumph over Tiffin in the conference championship game. That contest was played last Saturday (May 2) in Ashland.
A year ago, Ashland also earned the G-MAC's automatic berth and met Regis in the first round of the playoffs, again in Indianapolis. Regis won that game, 17-12.
The Eagles, owners of a 15-4 record, will play Grand Valley State at Indianapolis at 4 p.m., on Thursday, May 7. The winner of that game advances to a date with the host Greyhounds on Saturday, May 9 at 1 p.m.
Ashland is riding a 12-game winning streak. Earlier this year, in Allendale, Mich., the Eagles knocked off the Lakers, 19-11. GVSU comes into Thursday's match-up with a 12-7 record.
Indianapolis is the top seed in the Midwest Region. The Greyhounds are 17-1. The second seed is Maryville, which is 14-4. Maryville, like Indianapolis, will host a game on Thursday. That games pits third-seeded Regis (14-5) against sixth-seeded Rockhurst (12-4).
