On Saturday (May 9), the Ashland University women's lacrosse team's 2026 season came to a close.
A very successful campaign ended with a loss to the University of Indianapolis, which came into the NCAA Division II tournament as the No. 3-ranked team in the country. The Eagles put up a good fight, keeping the game close in the first half, but ultimately fell, 22-9.
The loss ends the campaign for the Eagles at a mark of 16-5, all while they went undefeated at 8-0 in conference action.
In the opening frame on Saturday, the Greyhounds came out swinging, scoring five goals while the Eagles were able to tally one.
From there, Ashland showcased a bit of fight, scraping together four goals in the second quarter. The Greyhounds did add on seven more, but the game was manageable, 12-5, heading into the break. Goals that quarter were tallied by
Ashley Fisher twice,
Ashley Drexler and
Tori Wanat.
The Eagles continued to compete in the second half, receiving third-quarter scores from both Fisher and
Rachel Crumbacher, but the Greyhounds' offense was relentless.
In the fourth, the Eagles scored two more, but it wasn't enough to halt the opposition.
Leading the way was Fisher, who finished the contest with four goals and one assist for five points, while Drexler came in at two goals and one assist for three points. Drexler also added an eye-popping 10 draw controls.
In net,
Annie Duncan made five saves.
The Eagles will now prepare to retool, reset and regroup, as they enter the offseason following a second straight Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament win and second consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament.
