Box Score The Ashland University baseball team wasn't on the right side of the final score today.
On Tuesday, April 21, the Eagles dropped a mid-week non-conference game to Slippery Rock, 9-6. While they were coming off a huge sweep over the Tiffin Dragons this past weekend, Tuesday's loss was a good test for what the team needs to still address before the postseason rolls around.
The Eagles, sporting a 28-14 overall record and 16-9 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play, have just eight games remaining until the regular season comes to a close.
In Tuesday's defeat, the team was able to score runs in the bottom of the first, fourth and sixth innings.
The sixth stands out as the most impactful, with three runs crossing the board. At that point, the game was tied at three, before a Collin Overholt double and a Ryan Shimek single helped put three more runs on the board to give the Eagles a three-run advantage.
Unfortunately, from there, The Rock took control and never looked back.
In the seventh, Morgen Billotte hit a home run to cut the difference to one, before Stone Powell followed him with a two-run shot to tie it moments later. The following inning, Slippery Rocky would pull ahead, putting the game's final three runs on the board.
Shimek was the Eagles' best player with three hits on the night, recording an RBI and a walk as well.
Following the loss, Ashland will be right back in action this weekend on Saturday and Sunday for back-to-back doubleheaders against the Northwood Timberwolves. The two sides will begin play at noon on Saturday.
