The Ashland University tennis teams completed a weekend full of matches.
On Saturday, April 12, the Eagles celebrated Senior Day, recognizing seven student-athletes, prior to a match up against the Cedarville Yellow Jackets, that would be leaving the program after the season concludes.
The men fell, 4-3, to the Yellow Jackets in a close-knit affair. They were able to get one win in doubles, coming from the duo of
Ryohei Miyake and
Reid Opel, who took down their opponent, 6-4. In singles action, wins from Miyake,
Bernardo Duarte and
Eduardo Lima kept the team score close until the very end.
On the women's side, they were able to sneak away with a win.Â
In duos action,
Ana Penteado and
Maria Jemio won, 6-4, while
Anna Corbel and
Brittany Witsken won, 7-5. In singles play,
Constanza Arancibia won, 7-5, while Jemio won, 6-3.
Evalienna Pryor had the most convincing win of the day for Ashland, downing Cedarville's Susannah Prince, 6-1.
After representing the program well on Saturday, the men returned to action on Sunday. Unfortunately, they would fall, 6-1, to Edinboro University. The only member of Ashland's men's team to win was Lima, who secured a 6-3 win over Edinboro's Emiel Tidman.Â
The Eagles, with a bit of momentum down the back-half of the year, look to take on the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers on the road on Friday, April 17, in Owensboro, Ky.
