Eagles Drop Game Four to Cavaliers on the Road, Still Win Series, 3-1

The Eagles Put Up a Strong 10 Runs in the Defeat

Box Score

On Sunday, March 22, the Ashland University baseball team fell to the Walsh University Cavaliers, 11-10, dropping the final game of a four-game series. The Eagles had previously won the other three outings on Friday and Saturday.

While it looked like Ashland was going to be able to get the job done, they were unable to close out the game in the ninth inning, giving up four runs, allowing the Cavaliers to walk it off.

Ashland came out strong, scoring two runs in the first inning, highlighted by a home run from Chris Franks.

Walsh answered with a three-run second inning and continued to trade blows with Ashland through the middle innings.

Ashland regained momentum in the fourth, putting up three runs, including a two-run homer from Sean Krueckeberg, to take the lead. The Eagles added another run in the fifth and carried a 7-6 advantage into the later innings.

After a quiet stretch, Walsh tied the game in the eighth before delivering a dramatic ninth-inning comeback. Trailing 10-7, Walsh erupted for four runs to complete the walk-off victory.

Franks led Ashland offensively with four hits and two RBIs, while Krueckeberg added three hits and a home run.

With the loss, the Eagles fall to 14-8 overall on the campaign and drop to 5-3 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.

As Ashland looks to put this game behind them, they'll gear up for a home game in just two days. The Eagles will play host to the Gannon Golden Knights from Tomassi Stadium and Donges Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex on Tuesday, March 24, at 3:00 p.m. EST.
