As announced by the Great Midwest Athletic Conference on Wednesday (July 23) afternoon, Ashland University's athletic trainers were recognized by the league as its 2024-25 Athletic Training Staff of the Year.
"Congratulations to the AU athletic trainers," said
Al King, Ashland Director of Athletics. "Like athletic trainers all around the country, at any level, being an athletic trainer means working a high number of hours and being relied upon to provide information and insight. At Ashland, we have a hard-working, dedicated group that always puts the health and safety of the student-athlete first. I'm proud of them and salute their commitment and dedication to Ashland and their profession.
"I'm fortunate to work with them and Ohio Health. We couldn't be in better hands."
This is the first time Ashland's athletic training staff has earned the award since the Eagle athletic department joined the Great Midwest in 2021.
Ashland's team of seven full-time athletic trainers is led by head athletic trainer
Josh Wiemels. He is joined by
David Jameyson,
Rob Cremeans,
Sam Olewiler,
Savannah Line,
Lydia Barona, and
Rachel Kornbluth.
The athletic training team covers 24 sports and successfully supported not only Ashland, but Great Midwest student-athletes, as the Eagles hosted six conference championships in 2024-25.
