Former Eagle Davis Helps Caen Basket Calvados Win French NM1 Title

Wendell Davis continues to rank as one of the top players and leaders in the century-plus history of Ashland College/University men's basketball.

Now, thanks to his team's win on Sunday (June 16), Davis can be referred to as something else – league champion.

In the third game of the best-of-3 championship series of the French NM1 league on Sunday, Davis led Caen Basket Calvados to the title in the deciding game, 70-69, over Saint Vallier Basket Drome. On Sunday, he collected 17 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal, and made 5-of-10 from the field, 2-of-5 from 3-point range and all five of his free throws.

During the 2023-24 regular-season for Caen, Davis averaged 11.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.0 steal per game.

This is the fifth season of professional basketball overseas for Davis, who is second on Eagle men's basketball's all-time scoring list (1,939 points) and fourth on the program's all-time rebounds list (769).

Davis played from 2013-16 and 2017-18 for Ashland, and during those four seasons, the Eagles won 11, 19, 25 and 20 games. His junior season of 2015-16 saw AU go 25-6, tie for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season championship and reach the NCAA Division II postseason.
