Starting with the Klash In Kentucky in late March, Ashland University's women's golf team has been on the rise at the right time.
A first-place finish there, followed by a second-place finish at Ohio Dominican's NC4K Classic, then a win at the Gannon Spring Invitational – and the Eagles looked like they were ready for a strong showing at the 2024 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship.
The first 36 holes of the Championship did nothing to change that, as, on Thursday (April 25) in Owensboro, Ky., Ashland ended the day in second place in the 10-team field. The top two teams following Friday's (April 26) third round will go on to the head-to-head medal match play final on Saturday (April 27) for the league title.
While Findlay is the Day 1 leader at 296-297—593, the Eagles (313-304—617) have a 23-shot advantage over third-place Walsh (325-315—640).
Individually, freshman
LeeAnn Harker is continuing her strong second half of the season, finishing Day 1 in fifth place at 74-79—153 (five birdies). Over her last eight rounds, Harker is averaging a score of 74.9.
Harker was one of four Eagles to end the day in the top 10 of the player leaderboard. Juniors
Grace Grant (79-75—154, two birdies) and
Emma Conway (78-76—154, three birdies) are tied for sixth, and freshman
Riley McKenzie (82-74—156, three birdies) is tied for 10
th.
Sophomore
Klaira Paramore rounded out the team showing on Thursday, tying for 23
rd (84-79—163, five birdies).
