The Ashland University men's and women's golf teams competed in the Belterra Classic down in Central Ohio on Monday, March 30, and Tuesday, March 31.
On the women's side, the Eagles were led by an incredible performance from Klaira Paramore in the third round, whose four birdies helped lead her to a total stroke count of 69 through 18 holes, placing her first individually among all golfers competing. In rounds one and two, she maintained a sharp performance, with a 77 and 74, totaling her out to 220 through 54 holes.
She is now tied with the fourth best single-day score, third best 54-hole score and fifth-most wins, all of which in program history.
Alongside Paramore, Anna Machamer also produced a strong performance. She finished third individually, posting a 228 through 54 holes. Her best round was the third as well, where she carded a 70. She is now tied with the eighth best single-day score in program history.
LeeAnn Harker paced the rest of the group with a 229, while Gracyn Vidovic followed with a 234 and Sammi Miller carded a 236. Competing individually but still representing Ashland, Zoe Mort added a 229, placing her tied for fourth, to round out the effort.
The Eagles finished +27, +23 and +4 as a team through three rounds.
Each of the Eagles contributed to multiple program records, including a single-day record score total and the second best 54-hole team score in program history.
On the men's end, with both A and B teams competing, they were also able to get a couple of big showings.
The A team started slow in the first round, totaling 298, which placed them middle of the pack, but Charlie Drapp turned up his play and forced the Eagles' A team into a third-place finish.
After posting a 77 through the first 18, he recorded a 70 in the next two rounds, which was one under par in each round. That was good enough to knock him down to a +4 through three rounds.
Along with Drapp, the Eagles got a good performance from Michael Fickle and Carter Mishler, who finished tied for eighteenth. Mark Pillar came in at 23rd and Scott Armstrong finished 27th.
Armstrong was able to pull some attention his way, as in round three he recorded an Eagle on hole 18, a par five, to finish off the two days of play.
The B team saw a great performance from Luke Schrek, who finished 11th individually, just a stop behind Drapp of the A team. As a group, the B team finished seventh overall.
