Ashland University senior goalkeeper
Mackenzie Simon has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference women's soccer defensive Athlete of the Week for the third time in 2023, the conference announced on Monday (Oct. 16) afternoon.
Â
Last week in wins over Tiffin (4-0) and Lake Erie (3-0) at Ferguson Field for the No. 1-ranked Eagles, Simon played 165 minutes without allowing goal, making four saves in the process.
Â
In her first season at Ashland, Simon is 12-0-1 with a 0.24 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage. She has eight individual shutouts and has been a part of two more combined clean sheets. Simon's GAA would be a program single-season record.
Â
Through Sunday (Oct. 15), Simon ranks fourth in the country in goals-against average and save percentage, and is tied for the third-most shutouts in the nation.
Â
Ashland is 12-0-1 overall and 8-0-1 in the Great Midwest, and will play a game for first place in the league's table on Tuesday (Oct. 17) at 2:30 p.m. at Northwood (10-2-2, 9-0-1).
