Klinger’s 78 Paces AU Purple Women’s Golf Team In Round 1 At Wooster

Ashland University's women's golf Purple team took part in the first round of the College of Wooster's Eva Shorb Weiskopf Memorial Invitational on Sunday (Oct. 1).
 
NOTABLES
  • Senior Maddy Klinger's career-low round of 78 was the best for an Eagle on Day 1, and she is tied for first place individually through 18 holes.
  • Klinger was followed by junior Alyson Veverka and sophomore Lainey Kathrein, each with 85s and each tied for 17th. Veverka had two birdies on the day, and Kathrein one.
  • Another senior, Paige Lawson, carded an 88 and is 23rd, and junior Sophia Rogowski had an 102 with a birdie and is tied for 39th. Her second career birdie came on a 65-yard chip on hole No. 18.
  • The Eagles ended with a team score of 336, good for third place after the first day. Wittenberg is first at 317, followed by the host Fighting Scots at 327.
