Eagle Men, Women Have Strong Showings At Mount Union

Ashland University's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams went to Mount Union for the John Homon Open on Thursday (April 7), and they came back with a number of impressive marks.
 
WHAT HAPPENED
  • Ashland's improved provisional mark for 2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, May 26-28 in Allendale, Mich., came from sophomore Noah Koch, and it was a big one. Koch's winning men's discus throw distance of 58.03 meters/190-feet-4 moves him into the No. 1 spot in NCAA Division II.
  • The three new Eagle provisionals were senior Trevor Bassitt in the men's 100-meter dash (10.53 seconds), freshman Sydney Koker in the women's high jump (1.70 meters/5-feet-7), and the men's 4x100 relay team of senior Aaron Banks, senior Keshun Jones, sophomore Doniven Jackson and senior Tim Rumas (41.03 seconds).
  • "It's a good opening," Banks said. "We look forward to the next time we run it."
  • Said Koker, "It was nice to come in and just provo. Once it's warm weather, I'll be jumping a lot higher than 1.70, hopefully."
  • FIRST PLACE – Senior Rachel Miller in the women's 400 hurdles (1:01.76), senior Cameron Shifflet in the men's 400 hurdles (54.47 seconds), freshman Declan Rohr in the men's pole vault (4.48 meters/14-feet-8ÂĽ), the men's 4x400 relay team of senior Ryan Rager, freshman Colin Roberts, freshman Ethan Schuster and senior Channing Phillips (3:20.84), the women's 4x100 relay team of senior Cheyanne Davis, junior Morgan Dennis, Miller and sophomore Alena Williams (47.64 seconds), and the women's 4x400 relay team of Davis, junior Macy Creamer, freshman Mia Gardner and Miller (3:55.33).
  • SECOND PLACE – Banks in the men's 100 dash (10.69 seconds), sophomore Trent Kauffman in the men's pole vault (4.33 meters/14-feet-2½), senior Travis Moore in the men's 110 hurdles (14.58 seconds), Gardner in the women's 400 dash (58.12 seconds), and freshman Sarah Masuoka in the women's pole vault (3.56 meters/11-feet-8).
  • THIRD PLACE – Jackson in the men's 100 dash (10.74 seconds), junior Erin Sievers in the women's pole vault (3.56 meters/11-feet-8), Koch in the men's shot put (15.80 meters/51-feet-10), Dennis in the women's 100 dash (12.50 seconds), and the men's 4x400 relay team of junior Nick Ponzi, senior Jake Hall, senior Nick Reimund and junior Joel Pospisil (3:28.91).
  • On Friday (April 8) at Mount Union, in the women's hammer throw, freshman Kelsey Kinsley and senior Carrol Pauley finished 1-2 – Kinsley at 53.36 meters/175-feet-0, and Pauley at 52.55 meters/172-feet-5.
 
UP NEXT
Ashland's men and women will split next week between the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic on Friday and Saturday (April 15-16) and Tiffin on Thursday-Saturday (April 14-16).
