The Ashland University track and field teams traveled around Ohio this past weekend to compete in different Pre-Easter meets.
On Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4, the track and field program sent athletes to compete at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the Wooster Invitational in Wooster, Ohio. At both meets, the Eagles were able to find multiple improved provisional marks as athletes climbed up national rankings lists.Â
In the 800-meter run, the Eagles received provisionals from
Colton Thress on the men's side, who recorded a mark of 1:49.72 placing him 10th in the nation, while
Jade Avance came in at a time of 3:07.98, which places her 8th.Â
Jon Lutz dominated in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing with a mark of 14.10, which puts him at 10th in Division II.
In the men's 4x100-meter relay, the four-some of
Trinity Keith,
Dominick Brister,
Liam Mann and
Joe Wahl came in with a time of 40.38, giving them the 12th spot in the nation.
The field athletes took home the rest of the provisional marks, with
Leslie Pollock and
Miranda Stone coming in at marks of 48.73 and 48.26 respectively. They sit 10th and 11th in the nation. Alongside the really strong discuss finishes, those competing in the hammer throw left their marks on the weekend as well. Men's throwers Aidan Hernandez and
Hayden Valenti recorded marks of 59.06 and 58.89, placing them 21st and 23rd, while women's throwers
Molly Winner and
Leslie Pollock tossed marks of 64.05 and 54.59. Their throws were good enough for placements of 1st and 15th in Division II.
Winner's throw was good enough to set a personal record and G-MAC record, all while having the best mark in the nation.Â
Up next, the Eagles will prepare to travel to Alliance, Ohio, for the John Homon Open on Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11.Â
