Jon Lutz Headlines Day 2 of Track and Field Nationals, Brings Home National Title

Lutz Tied the School Record in the 60-Meter Hurdles, All While Winning the National Championship

Jon Lutz has done it.

On Saturday, March 14, on Day 2 of the 2026 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Virginia Beach, Va., the Ashland University Eagles were well represented yet again. Lutz, who's dominated the track since his collegiate career began just months ago, came out and shined in the men's 60-meter hurdles.

With a time of 7.67, Lutz blew past the competition, officially becoming the 2026 Division II men's 60-meter hurdles champion. His mark also ties the all-time Ashland record in the 60-meter hurdles.

He is now the second national champion for the Eagles at the indoor championships, joining junior thrower Leslie Pollock who took home the top spot in the women's weight throw on Day 1.

Following Lutz, junior Molly Winner finished in fifteenth place on Saturday in the women's shot put, capping off her time on the biggest stage with two top-15 placements.

The Eagles will return to Ashland with numerous strong marks and placements from the national championships. In total, they recorded two first-place finishes, one second-place finish, one fourth-place finish, two 12th-place finishes and one 15th-place finish.

Up next, most of the athletes will begin preparation for the outdoor season, which starts Friday, March 20, at the Lee University Invitational in Cleveland, Tenn.
