Eagle Men, Women Put On Show At Alumni Open

The second day of the 2022 Ashland Alumni Open was contested on Saturday (April 30) at the Dwight Schar Athletic Complex, and Ashland University's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams turned in some impressive performances.
 
WHAT HAPPENED
  • Ashland athletes turned in five improved and one new provisional mark for the 2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, May 26-28 in Allendale, Mich.
  • The men's 400-meter relay team of senior Aaron Banks, sophomore Doniven Jackson, senior Channing Phillips and senior Keshun Jones not only won with a facility record of 39.65 seconds, but that improved upon a previous provo, and set a new school record.
  • More improved provos were turned in by Phillips in winning the men's 400 dash (47.00 seconds), Banks in winning the men's 100 dash (10.51 seconds, facility record), sophomore Noah Koch in the men's shot put elite (fourth, 17.20 meters/56-feet-5¼), and freshman Sarah Masuoka in the women's pole vault (fifth, 3.88 meters/12-feet-8¾).
  • The new provo came from senior Travis Moore in the preliminaries of the men's 110 hurdles at 14.39 seconds.
  • FIRST PLACE – Freshman Caden Morris in the men's long jump (7.13 meters/23-feet-4¾), Jones in the men's 200 dash (21.53 seconds), senior Nate Stout in the men's discus throw (45.74 meters/150-feet-0), and junior Ethan Tabor in the men's triple jump (13.61 meters/44-feet-8).
  • SECOND PLACE – Senior Storm Elsesser in the men's triple jump (13.53 meters/44-feet-4¾), senior Matthew Long in the men's 3,000 steeplechase (10:12.88), freshman Jacquelyn Hill in the women's discus throw (41.01 meters/134-feet-6), senior Cheyanne Davis in the women's 400 dash (56.08 seconds) and women's 200 dash (25.38 seconds), Jackson in the men's 100 dash (10.57 seconds), junior Morgan Dennis in the women's 100 dash (12.16 seconds), freshman Kelsey Kinsley in the women's shot put (13.95 meters/45-feet-9¼), freshman Colton Pinkerton in the men's 5,000 run (15:37.78), the men's 4x400 relay team of senior Ryan Rager, senior Tim Rumas, Jackson and freshman Colin Roberts (3:19.64); Koch in the men's discus elite (53.27 meters/174-feet-9), and Elsesser in the men's high jump (1.95 meters/6-feet-4¾).
  • THIRD PLACE – Rager in the men's 400 dash (48.65 seconds), freshman Mia Gardner in the women's 400 dash (56.67 seconds), sophomore Alena Williams in the women's 100 dash (12.17 seconds), sophomore McKenna Woodruff in the women's 800 run (2:14.92), Moore in the men's 400 hurdles (53.48 seconds), junior Macy Creamer in the women's 400 hurdles (1:03.95), Rumas in the men's 200 dash (22.09 seconds), the women's 4x400 relay of Davis, Creamer, Gardner and senior Rachel Miller (4:03.56), and freshman Brock Janowicz in the men's discus throw (44.88 meters/147-feet-3).
  • Late on Friday (April 29), junior Allie Holmes finished third in the women's javelin throw at 35.03 meters/114-feet-11.

The AU men and women will compete at the 2022 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships on Wednesday-Friday (May 4-6) in Owensboro, Ky.
