At the Aspen Racquet Club in nearby Wooster on Saturday (March 26), Ashland University's women's and men's tennis teams earned their initial Great Midwest Athletic Conference victories against Cedarville - 7-0 for the women and 6-1 for the men.
The Eagle men are 4-8 overall and 1-1 in the Great Midwest, and the AU women are 3-5, 1-1. Cedarville's teams are 6-7, 0-2 (men) and 5-9, 1-2 (women).
WHAT HAPPENED
- Ashland's women swept the six singles matches – senior Gabriella Hudec at No. 1 (4-6, 6-3 7-6(4)), sophomore Kortney Reed at No. 2 (6-2, 6-3), senior Huntyr Lake at No. 3 (6-2, 6-2), freshman Claudia Adcock at No. 4 (6-3, 6-0), freshman Alice Adin at No. 5 (6-3, 6-2), and senior Lydia Bice at No. 6 (6-4, 6-2).
- In doubles, the Eagles went 3-0 – Lake and Reed at No. 1 (6-3), Hudec and Adcock at No. 2 (6-4), and freshman Meredith Fitch and Adin at No. 3 (6-3).
- The Eagle men earned wins in five of six singles contests – senior Stuart Brdicka at No. 1 (6-4, 6-1), freshman William Rassat at No. 2 (6-3, 7-6(3)), senior Jordan Phelps at No. 3 (4-6, 6-1, 6-3), freshman Fabian Bussard at No. 5 (6-4, 6-3), and sophomore Omar Prince at No. 6 (6-1, 6-4).
- Men's doubles wins were earned by Brdicka and Phelps at No. 1 (7-5), Bussard and Prince at No. 2 (6-4), and Rassat and senior Tche Kun Teng at No. 3 (6-3).
