Starting the 2022 spring championship season on Thursday (March 10) in Wesley Chapel, Fla., the Ashland University women's golf team is in sixth place after 18 holes of the Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff.
The Eagles finished Day 1 with a team score of 327. Keiser University is first at 301, followed by Tiffin (305), St. Thomas, Fla. (312), Walsh (315) and Northwood (322).
WHAT HAPPENED
- Freshman Emma Conway led the AU effort in Round 1 by carding an 80. Sophomore Mailiis Simovart was right behind with a career-low 81 (three birdies), freshman Grace Grant had an 82 (one birdie), and senior Sophia Lowe finished with an 84 (one birdie).
- The most intriguing round was turned in by freshman Samantha Webb, who finished with an 88. Webb recorded an eagle on hole No. 7, giving her two eagles so far in 2021-22, tied for the most in program history in one school year, and tied for the most by any AU women's golfer in a career – after just nine rounds.
- Playing as an individual on Thursday was sophomore Maddy Klinger (96).
