Brent Fairbanks highlighted the first day of the 2022 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships for Ashland University's men's and women's indoor track and field teams on Friday (Feb. 25) at Findlay.

Liberatore's women's pentathlon-winning total of 3,496 points also is an improved provisional mark for the 2022 NCAA Division II Championships (March 11-12 in Pittsburg, Kan.). Fairbanks also improved upon his previous provisional distance in winning the men's weight throw at 21.97 meters/72-feet-1.

Ashland's men are in third place through five of 17 events scored. The Eagles have 34 team points, trailing only Findlay (54) and Tiffin (47). On the women's side, Ashland is in fourth place with 29 points through five of 17 events scored. First is Findlay (53), second is Hillsdale (35) and third is Cedarville (31).

WHAT HAPPENED
- On the men's side, freshman Caden Morris was the runner-up in the men's long jump at 7.17 meters/23-feet-6ÂĽ, while sophomore Noah Koch was third place with an improved provo in the men's weight throw at 19.62 meters/64-feet-4.
- In the women's weight throw, senior Carrol Pauley was the runner-up at 19.45 meters/63-feet-9.
- FOURTH PLACE – The women's distance medley relay team of senior Cassandra Ponzi, freshman Hannah Berheide, sophomore McKenna Woodruff and senior Abby Moser (12:33.35).
- FIFTH PLACE – Freshman Kelsey Kinsley in the women's weight throw (17.20 meters/56-feet-5), and the men's DMR of senior Steven Kapes, freshman Colin Roberts, junior Joel Pospisil and freshman Colton Pinkerton (10:18.23).
- SIXTH PLACE – Sophomore Wyatt Cory in the men's pole vault (4.63 meters/15-feet-2¼).
- SEVENTH PLACE – Senior Taylor Kroll in the women's weight throw (16.84 meters/55-feet-3), and senior Storm Elsesser in the men's long jump (6.85 meters/22-feet-5¾).
- EIGHTH PLACE – Sophomore Trent Kauffman in the men's pole vault (4.48 meters/14-feet-8¼).
- In preliminaries on Friday, seniors Travis Moore (8.08 seconds in the men's 60-meter hurdles) and Aaron Banks (6.82 seconds in the men's 60 dash) improved upon previous provisional times.
