On Friday (Feb. 11), Ashland University's No. 2-ranked men's indoor track and field team, and the Eagle women, started their weekend at the Grand Valley State Big Meet and the Kent State Doug Raymond Invitational.

At GVSU, Eagle athletes collected four new and seven improved provisional marks for the 2022 NCAA Division II Championships (March 11-12 in Pittsburg, Kan.).

WHAT HAPPENED
- Friday's new provisional marks were earned by seniors Channing Phillips (sixth place, 21.56 seconds) and Aaron Banks (eighth place, 21.59 seconds) in the men's 200-meter dash, senior Taylor Kroll in the women's weight throw invite (seventh place, 17.35 meters/56-feet-11ÂĽ), and junior Nick Ponzi in the men's 800 run (17th place, 1:51.78).
- The improved provos were senior Trevor Bassitt in the men's 200 dash (first place, 20.75 seconds), freshman Brock Janowicz in the men's weight throw (first place, 18.60 meters/61-feet-0ÂĽ), senior Carrol Pauley in the women's weight throw invite (third place, 19.63 meters/64-feet-5), sophomore Doniven Jackson in the men's 200 dash (third place, 21.39 seconds) and men's 60 dash (fourth place, 6.75 seconds), the women's 4x400 relay team of senior Cheyanne Davis, junior Macy Creamer, senior Rachel Miller and freshman Mia Gardner (fifth place, 3:47.83), and senior Nate Stout in the men's shot put invite (sixth place, 17.66 meters/57-feet-11ÂĽ). The women's 4x4 also turned in the second-best time in the event in program history.
- Also at GVSU, Bassitt won the men's 60 hurdles in 7.77 seconds, and freshman Kelsey Kinsley was third in the women's shot put at 13.72 meters/45-feet-0ÂĽ.
