The first second-semester action for Ashland University's men's and women's indoor track and field teams came on Friday (Jan. 14) at Hillsdale, in a tri-meet with Findlay.
Eagle athletes came away with five new and improved provisional marks for the 2022 NCAA Division II Championships, March 11-12 in Pittsburg, Kan.
In the men's standings, the Eagles ran away with the meet, recording 148.5 points to Hillsdale's 82.5 and Findlay's 76. On the women's side, Hillsdale's 114 team points were better than the Oilers' 106 and the Eagles' 102.
WHAT HAPPENED
- Senior Trevor Bassitt, in his first action of the season, provisionaled in the men's 60-meter hurdle prelims in 7.78 seconds, then won the finals in 7.75 seconds. That time is tied for 15th in the world this indoor season. Also winning in a provisional effort was freshman Sydney Koker in the women's high jump (1.71 meters/5-feet-7¼).
- In the men's mile run, senior Ian Johnson took second place in a new provo time of 4:13.49, freshman Sarah Masuoka was fourth in the women's pole vault in an improved provo mark of 3.99 meters/13-feet-1, and senior Nate Stout was fourth in the men's weight throw with a new provo mark of 18.66 meters/61-feet-2¾.
- FIRST PLACE – Senior Storm Elsesser in the men's high jump (2.00 meters/6-feet-6¾), Stout in the men's shot put (16.83 meters/55-feet-2¾), senior Carrol Pauley in the women's weight throw (18.91 meters/62-feet-0½), junior Morgan Dennis in the women's 60 dash (7.81 seconds), senior Cheyanne Davis in the women's 400 dash (58.67 seconds), senior Keshun Jones in the men's 400 dash (49.52 seconds), junior Nick Ponzi in the men's 800 run (1:56.17), sophomore Doniven Jackson in the men's 200 dash (22.30 seconds), senior Brent Fairbanks in the men's weight throw (21.38 meters/70-feet-1¾), the women's 4x400 relay team of Davis, freshman Mia Gardner, sophomore McKenna Woodruff and senior Abby Moser (4:04.90); and the men's 4x400 relay team of junior Brayden Chaney, sophomore Brenden Jackson, senior Ryan Rager and freshman Noah Wood (3:25.54).
- SECOND PLACE – Sophomore Emma Liberatore in the women's high jump (1.63 meters/5-feet-4¼), junior Ethan Tabor in the men's high jump (1.95 meters/6-feet-4¾), senior Travis Moore in the men's 60 hurdles (8.30 seconds), sophomore Noah Koch in the men's shot put (15.98 meters/52-feet-5¼) and the men's weight throw (18.92 meters/62-feet-1), Doniven Jackson in the men's 60 dash (7.00 seconds), sophomore Alena Williams in the women's 60 dash (7.83 seconds), Gardner in the women's 400 dash (59.78 seconds), Rager in the men's 400 dash (49.88 seconds), senior Rachel Miller in the women's 200 dash (25.89 seconds), senior Aaron Banks in the men's 200 dash (22.44 seconds), and freshman Caden Morris in the men's long jump (6.80 meters/22-feet-3¾).
- THIRD PLACE – Senior Cameron Shifflet in the men's 60 hurdles (8.49 seconds), sophomore Cole LaRoche in the men's shot put (15.95 meters/52-feet-4), freshman Kelsey Kinsley in the women's weight throw (17.69 meters/58-feet-0½), Banks in the men's 60 dash (7.08 seconds), sophomore Riley Thomas in the women's 60 dash (8.15 seconds), Moser in the women's mile run (5:19.43), Brenden Jackson in the men's 400 dash (50.60 seconds), and Elsesser in the men's long jump (6.79 meters/22-feet-3½).
