Last-chance meets to improve the chances making the NCAA Championships are a hit-or-miss proposition.
Â
Ashland University track and field athletes hit three times over on Saturday (May 15) at the Lee (Tenn.) University Last Chance Meet, as seniors
Rachel Miller,
Channing Phillips and
Ian Johnson all moved themselves into prime position for the 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, May 27-29 at Grand Valley State.
Â
- Miller not only won the women's 400-meter hurdles in 59.45 seconds, but she set a new school record in the process. Her improved provisional time for nationals would have been the No. 6 time in the nation entering Saturday.
Â
- Phillips' winning time of 47.15 seconds in the men's 400 dash also was an improved provisional time, and would have been No. 8 in the country going into Saturday.
Â
- Johnson won the men's 800 run in 1:49.84, turning in an improved provisional which would have been No. 8 in D-II going into the day.
Â
Eagles who qualify for D-II nationals will be revealed in an NCAA press release on Tuesday (May 18) at 6 p.m.
