Six Nationals Marks Highlight Hillsdale, GVSU Meets

In the last meets prior to the 2021 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships (May 5-7 in Grand Rapids, Mich.), Ashland University's men's and women's track and field teams picked up six nationals marks on Friday (April 30) at the Hillsdale Outdoor Tune-Up at the Grand Valley State Extra Weekend Meet.
 
In the men's discus, the Eagles went 1-2 with improved provisional marks for the 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, May 27-29 at Grand Valley State. Freshman Noah Koch won at 56.03 meters/183-feet-10, while senior Alex Hill was second at 55.40 meters/181-feet-9.
 
In the men's hammer throw, senior Cody Patterson won with an improved provo of 58.25 meters/191-feet-1, while in the women's high jump, senior Ellie Jindra was the winner with an improved provo of 1.74 meters/5-feet-8½.
 
FIRST PLACE – Sophomore Ethan Tabor in the men's long jump (6.85 meters/22-feet-5¾) and men's 400-meter hurdles (57.06 seconds), freshman Trent Kauffman in the men's pole vault (4.68 metes/15-feet-4¼), and junior Carrol Pauley in the women's hammer throw (50.99 meters/167-feet-3).
 
SECOND PLACE – Sophomore Erin Sievers in the women's pole vault (tied, 3.74 meters/12-feet-3¼), sophomore Wyatt Cory in the men's pole vault (tied, 4.53 meters/14-feet-10¼), freshman Cole LaRoche in the men's shot put (15.96 meters/52-feet-4½), senior Gianna DiPippo in the women's hammer throw (50.00 meters/164-feet-0), sophomore Allie Holmes in the women's javelin throw (30.83 meters/101-feet-2), junior Makayla Pop in the women's discus (46.50 meters/181-feet-9), freshman Bobby Crenshaw in the men's 400 dash (49.36 seconds), and freshman Brenden Jackson in the men's 400 hurdles (57.56 seconds).
 
THIRD PLACE – Freshman Paxton Titus in the men's shot put (14.74 meters/48-feet-4½) and Pop in the women's hammer throw (49.33 meters/161-feet-10).
 
At GVSU, senior Ian Johnson took third and improved upon his provisional time in the men's 1,500 run at 3:47.04, while, in the men's 5,000 run, senior Steven Kapes came in at 14:21.93 for a new provo.
