AU Men, Women Keep Adding Nationals Marks At Tiffin Classic

On Friday (April 16) and Saturday (April 17) at the Tiffin Reggie Thomas Classic, Ashland University's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams continued to add nationals marks on the way to the 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, May 27-29 at Grand Valley State.
 
Five new provisional nationals showings were earned, four in winning efforts – senior Travis Moore in the men's decathlon (6,932 points), senior Rachel Miller in the women's 400-meter hurdles (1:00.97), senior Trevor Bassitt in the men's 400 dash (46.63 seconds), and the men's 4x400 relay team of sophomore Brayden Chaney, junior Keshun Jones and seniors Channing Phillips and Bassitt (3:08.78).
 
Junior Cameron Shifflet was third in the 400 hurdles in 53.13 seconds.
 
In the men's discus, freshman Noah Koch was the runner-up and improved upon his previous provisional distance at 52.42 meters/172-feet-0, while sophomore Erin Sievers tied her previous provisional in winning the pole vault (3.90 meters/12-feet-9½). In the men's hammer throw, seniors Alex Hill (first, 68.45 meters/224-feet-7) and Brent Fairbanks (third, 65.50 meters/214-feet-11) each improved upon their previous previous season-best nationals showings.
 
FIRST PLACE – Senior Alex Hill in the men's discus (53.29 meters/174-feet-10), Bassitt in the 110 hurdles (13.72 seconds), junior Travis Marx in the men's 100 dash (10.58 seconds) and 200 dash (21.66 seconds), junior Jake Hall in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:42.05), senior Ian Johnson in the 800 run (1:52.87), and the women's 4x400 relay team of freshman Peyton Perini, Miller, freshman McKenna Woodruff and junior Cheyanne Davis (3:58.86).
 
SECOND PLACE – Jones in the 400 dash (48.18 seconds), senior Javon Graham in the 110 hurdles (14.33 seconds), Phillips in the 200 dash (21.67 seconds), freshman Ashleigh Bowker in the women's 100 hurdles (14.94 seconds), senior Ellie Jindra in the women's high jump (1.70 meters/5-feet-7), freshman Jacquelyn Douglas in the women's discus (42.68 meters/140-feet-0), senior Cody Stine in the men's high jump (2.00 meters/6-feet-6¾) and junior Makayla Pop in the women's hammer throw (53.70 meters/176-feet-2).
 
THIRD PLACE – Freshman Doniven Jackson in the 200 dash (21.86 seconds) and 100 dash (10.78 seconds), junior Matthew Long in the men's 3,000 steeplechase (9:52.96), sophomore Wyatt Cory in the men's pole vault (4.60 meters/15-feet-1), and senior Gianna DiPippo in the women's hammer throw (51.72 meters/169-feet-8).
 
Ashland's men and women will play host to the 11th Ashland Alumni Open on Friday and Saturday (April 23-24).
