School Records, National Marks Highlight Carolinas Finish

These days, it might be quicker to point out the days when Ashland University senior Trevor Bassitt doesn't set a record.

On Saturday (March 27) at the Raleigh Relays, Bassitt set the new school standard in the men's 110-meter hurdles and 400 hurdles, and also was part of the men's 4x100 relay team which also set a new school record.

In the 110 hurdles, Bassitt finished in 13.59 seconds, making him the fifth-best in NCAA Division II in the history of the event. Along with juniors Tim Rumas and Travis Marx and freshman Doniven Jackson, Bassitt helped the 4x100 relay into the AU record books at 40.08 seconds.

Bassitt also won the men's 400 hurdles in 49.34 seconds, which also is automatic qualification for 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, May 27-29 at Grand Valley State, a new school record, and makes Bassitt the No. 8 performer in that event in men's D-II history.

There were three provisional marks for outdoor nationals, on Saturday at Raleigh. Rumas was fifth in the men's 100 dash in 10.57 seconds, senior Brent Fairbanks was eighth in the men's hammer throw at 63.02 meters/206-feet-9, and junior Carrol Pauley took 12th in the women's hammer throw at 52.38 meters/171-feet-10.

At the adidas Winthrop Invitational on Saturday, senior Travis Moore earned provisional entry into outdoor nationals, finishing second in the men's 400 hurdles in 53.25 seconds.

Winning events at Winthrop were junior Elizabeth Weimer in the women's shot put (12.90 meters/42-feet-4) and freshman Noah Koch in the men's discus (50.14 meters/164-feet-6).

Runner-up showings Saturday were turned in by Moore in the men's javelin (47.62 meters/156-feet-3), junior Storm Elsesser in the men's high jump (1.95 meters/6-feet-4¾), the men's 4x400 relay quartet of freshman Bobby Crenshaw, sophomore Nick Ponzi, senior Paul Lang and sophomore Joel Pospisil (3:25.71); senior Amber Otermat in the women's pole vault (3.65 meters/11-feet-11¾), junior Cheyanne Davis in the women's 400 dash (57.42 seconds), and sophomore Macy Creamer in the women's 400 hurdles (1:06.16).

Placing third were sophomore Brayden Chaney in the men's 400 dash (49.27 seconds) and senior David Amstutz in the men's discus throw (47.00 meters/154-feet-2).

Ashland's men and women are slated to be back in action on Friday (April 2) at the Northeast Ohio Quad at Youngstown State.
