Track And Field Ends Semester Strong At YSU Holiday Classic

In the second and final meet of the new season prior to the Christmas/New Year's break, Ashland University's men's and women's indoor track and field teams turned in numerous provisional marks for 2022 NCAA Division II nationals and first-place efforts on Friday (Dec. 10) at the Youngstown State Holiday Classic.
 
WHAT HAPPENED
  • There were five new and three improved provisional marks for the 2022 NCAA Division II Championships, March 11-12 in Pittsburg, Kan. The new marks came from senior Brent Fairbanks in the men's weight throw (second place, 21.43 meters/70-feet-3¾), freshman Kelsey Kinsley in the women's weight throw (second, 17.73 meters/58-feet-2) and women's shot put (fifth, 13.71 meters/44-feet-11¾), freshman Sarah Masuoka in the women's pole vault (third, 3.69 meters/12-feet-1¼), and senior Travis Moore in the men's 60-meter hurdles (fourth, 8.23 seconds).
  • Improved provos were earned by senior Carrol Pauley in the women's weight throw (first, 19.31 meters/63-feet-4¼), senior Nate Stout in the men's shot put (first, 17.66 meters/57-feet-11¼), and sophomore Noah Koch in the men's weight throw (third, 19.50 meters/63-feet-11¾).
  • FIRST PLACE – Senior Ian Johnson in men's 3,000 run (8:44.77), senior Ryan Rager in men's 400 dash (49.40 seconds), junior Nick Ponzi in men's 800 run (1:56.58), and men's 4x400 relay team of Rager, junior Ethan Tabor, freshman Noah Harshbarger and Moore (3:19.97).
  • SECOND PLACE – Senior Jake Hall in men's 3,000 run (8:45.05), sophomore Doniven Jackson in men's 60 dash (6.89 seconds), senior Cassandra Ponzi in women's 800 run (2:22.39), and freshman Declan Rohr in men's pole vault (4.63 meters/15-feet-2¼).
  • THIRD PLACE – Senior Nick Reimund in men's 3,000 run (8:57.14), Harshbarger in men's 400 run (50.41 seconds), sophomore McKenna Woodruff in women's 800 run (2:22.84), freshman Colton Pinkerton in men's mile run (4:27.66), senior Rachel Miller in women's 400 dash (57.19 seconds), and junior Joel Pospisil in the men's 800 run (1:57.94).
 
UP NEXT
Ashland's men and women will begin the second semester in a tri-meet at Hillsdale with Findlay on Jan. 14.
