A fall-best team round of 317 highlighted the first day of play for Ashland University's women's golf team on Monday (Oct. 18) at the Music City Classic, outside of Nashville, Tenn.
Coming off a win in their own Eagle Invitational, the Eagles' Monday round was nine strokes better than their previous 2021 fall best of 326 in round No. 2 at Findlay's Beall Fall Classic.
WHAT HAPPENED
- The Eagles were led by a trio of freshmen on Monday – Samantha Webb (tied for 29th, 78), Emma Conway (tied for 41st, 79, birdie on hole No. 16) and Grace Grant (tied for 41st, 79). Both Conway's and Grant's rounds were collegiate lows.
- Senior Sophia Lowe is tied for 52nd after carding an 81, and sophomore Mailiis Simovart is tied for 67th after a first-round 84. Lowe's round was a season-best.
- Playing as individuals were sophomore Paige Lawson and freshman Lindsay Mayo, who each are tied for 69th with rounds of 85. Mayo birdied holes No. 14 and 17, and Lawson's round was a career-best.
- Ashland is 10th in the 16-team field through the first 18 holes. Christian Brothers is atop the team leaderboard after a first-day 300, and Northwood and Southern Indiana are tied for second a shot back at 301.
- Individually, Kesinee Prukmathakul of Franklin Pierce fired a 6-under 66 to take a four-shot lead into the second day.

The second and final day of the Music City Classic will be played on Tuesday (Oct. 19).
