Eagles Add To Nationals Marks At Hillsdale Tri-Meet

Ashland University's women's and men's indoor track and field teams continued to add to their nationals marks on Friday (Jan. 22) at a tri-meet at Hillsdale with Findlay.
 
In the men's 60-meter dash, both senior Trevor Bassitt (first place, 6.73 seconds) and junior Tim Rumas (second, 6.76) earned new provisional marks for the 2021 NCAA Division II Championships, March 12-13 in Birmingham, Ala. The men's mile run saw senior Ian Johnson win and claim a new provisional with a time of 4:10.41.
 
The women's weight throw featured an improved provo from junior Taylor Kroll, who won with a top heave of 18.41 meters/60-feet-5. In the women's pole vault, sophomore Erin Sievers tied for third and added a new provo at 3.66 meters/12-feet-0.
 
Earning victories on Friday were Johnson in the men's 800 run (1:56.03), sophomore Ethan Tabor in the men's triple jump (13.82 meters/45-feet-4¼) and the men's long jump (6.89 meters/22-feet-7¼), Bassitt in the men's 60 hurdles (7.71 seconds), senior Steven Kapes in the men's 3,000 meters (8:26.61), the men's 4x400 relay team of Rumas, junior Travis Marx, senior Channing Phillips and Bassitt (3:16.58), Phillips in the men's 200 dash (22.04 seconds), freshman Alena Williams in the women's 60 dash (7.89 seconds), junior Cheyanne Davis in the women's 400 dash (59.13 seconds), and senior Rachel Miller in the women's 200 dash (26.26 seconds).
 
Second-place finishes were earned by junior Carrol Pauley in the women's weight throw (18.40 meters/60-feet-4½), junior Maddi Yingst in the women's 60 hurdles (9.30 seconds), the women's 4x400 relay team of Davis, Yingst, Miller and freshman Emma Liberatore (4:04.08), junior Jake Hall in the men's mile (4:16.51), junior Storm Elsesser in the men's long jump (6.65 meters/21-feet-10), senior Travis Moore in the men's 60 hurdles (8.24 seconds), senior Spencer Wirick in the men's 3,000 run (8:58.22), senior Brent Fairbanks in the men's weight throw (20.42 meters/67-feet-0), senior David Amstutz in the men's shot put (16.16 meters/53-feet-0¼), and junior Keshun Jones in the men's 400 dash (49.96).
 
Taking thirds were Marx in the men's long jump (6.43 meters/21-feet-1¼) and men's 200 dash (22.61 seconds), senior Cody Patterson in the men's weight throw (19.35 meters/63-feet-6), freshman Cole LaRoche in the men's shot put (15.59 meters/51-feet-1¾), freshman Doniven Jackson in the men's 60 dash (7.01 seconds), junior Brayden Chaney in the men's 400 dash (50.75 seconds), Yingst in the women's 200 dash (26.61 seconds), freshman Kelsey Kinsley in the women's shot put (13.09 meters/42-feet-11½), freshman Riley Thomas in the women's triple jump (10.26 meters/33-feet-8), and senior Gianna DiPippo in the women's weight throw (18.21 meters/59-feet-9).
 
The Eagle men and women are slated to go to the Youngstown State National Mid Major Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 29-30).
