As announced by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Tuesday (Feb. 4) afternoon, the Ashland University 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Tim Rumas, junior Travis Moore, junior Trevor Bassitt and senior Paul Murray has earned Week 5 Men's Track Athletes of the Week honors.
On Saturday (Feb. 1) at the Penn State University National Open, the quartet finished third in the predominantly-NCAA Division I race by crossing the finish line in 3:12.93. That time puts Ashland in the No. 4 spot nationally heading into the new week.
For Bassitt, this is the fourth consecutive week he has landed a GLIAC weekly award. Rumas, Moore and Murray all have their first awards of 2019-20.
Of the 20 GLIAC track and field weekly awards so far this season, nine have been earned by Ashland athletes. The last time an AU relay garnered a weekly GLIAC award was Week 5 of the 2017-18 indoor season, when the men's 4x4 of Channing Phillips, Brenden Archer, Murray and Myles Pringle picked up the honor.
Ashland's men's and women's indoor track and field teams will go to the Akron Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 7-8).
