Senior Megan Pollock and the Ashland University women's golf team got off to a strong start to the 2019-20 season on Sunday (Sept. 8) after the first 18 holes at Gannon's Michael Corbett Fall Classic.

Both Pollock individually and the Eagles as a team are the pacesetters after the first round in Erie, Pa. Pollock, in her first round at Ashland following three years at NCAA Division I Dayton, fired a 3-over-par 75, and is leading West Chester's Meghan O'Maray by one stroke going into Day 2 on Monday (Sept. 9).

Pollock's Sunday included three birdies.

As a squad, the Eagles lead the 20-team field with a total of 316 – four shots ahead of second-place Ohio Dominican (320) and five strokes better than third-place Gannon (321).

Junior Sophie Hemleben had four birdies in the first round, including three in a row on holes No. 11-13, to end the day in fourth place with a score of 77. Right behind was senior Logan Pottorf, who is tied for fifth place after 18 holes with a career-low round of 78.

Sophomore Sophia Lowe is tied for 39th (86), and senior Claire Coughenour is 68th (93).
