Ashland University's men's soccer team evened its 2016 overall record at 3-3 following a 2-0 win at non-conference opponent Malone (1-5-1) on Wednesday (Sept. 21) afternoon.
"It was the response we were looking for," said Ashland head coach Oliver Slawson. "On the road again, two goals and a clean sheet and a controlled performance."
Senior goalkeeper Nick Ciraldo earned his second shutout of the season, making four saves to preserve the clean sheet and lower his season goals-against average to 1.77.
The Eagles got the only goal they would need in the 36th minute, when freshman forward Clemente Gomez-Morey scored his second goal of the fall. Ashland added insurance in the 87th minute when freshman midfielder C.J. Maynard potted his first collegiate goal on a pass from freshman defender John Duldner.
The Eagles had advantages over the Pioneers in both shots (18-10) and shots on goal (6-4) in the victory.
Wednesday's victory is the 175th all-time for the Eagle men's soccer program (175-129-29, .569).
UP NEXT: The Eagles will return to Ferguson Field for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game with Ohio Dominican (2-3 overall, 2-2 GLIAC) on Sunday (Sept. 25) at 5 p.m.
