Eagle Men Earn Home Tie Vs. No. 8 Cedarville To End Season

Ashland University's men's soccer team earned a result against No. 8-ranked Cedarville on Saturday (Nov. 1) afternoon, as the Eagles tied the Yellow Jackets, 1-1, at Ferguson Field.

The Senior Day point allowed the Eagles to finish the 2025 season at 4-9-4 overall and 3-8-3 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Cedarville is 10-0-7, 8-0-5.

"It was there," head coach Nick Roberts said about his team. "It's been there the whole time. The work rate has been there, it's been incredible, really. We're not quite there. They've been fantastic.

"To be where we're at, record-wise, and to say that I've thoroughly enjoyed the season, and really enjoyed working with these kids, is really a testament to how it's been."

Ashland didn't take long to take a lead, as, in the seventh minute, senior forward Rodri Jimenez scored his third goal of the season. Freshman forward Tom Woodward collected his fifth assist of the fall.

"I told them before the game, I think they can win this game," Roberts said. "There hasn't been a game that we've stepped out on the field this year that I didn't think we could win."

In the 65th minute, the Yellow Jackets leveled the score at 1-1 when Christian Nardelli scored, unassisted.

WRAPPING IT UP
  • It was a near-even game on Saturday in terms of shots (11-10 Cedarville), but the Yellow Jackets took eight of the game's 11 corner kicks.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Alvaro Boned (3-8-3) made three saves in the draw.
  • For the seniors, Roberts said, "They have the frustration of knowing, a lot of parts of the season, we've played very, very well. Things maybe this year didn't bounce our way. It was a good way to end."
