Box Score 2 Ashland University's baseball team stands at 6-5 on the young 2016 season after splitting two games against Alderson Broaddus in Florida on Thursday (March 10).
In a 5-2 win over the Battlers, sophomore Derek Baker got the win on the mound following five innings of allowing eight hits, two runs and no walks and striking out one. Senior Alex Smith picked up the save with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Junior Carsten Dembeck was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored.
Ashland had no errors and no walks by pitchers in the victory.
In a 3-2 loss, sophomore J.P. Sorma was 2-for-3 at the plate. Junior Cory Teachout took the loss, allowing a hit, three runs (two earned) and three walks and striking out one in 2 1/3 frames.
All of the runs in Game 2 came in the third inning.
The Eagles will play in Florida on Friday (March 11) at 12:30 p.m. against Slippery Rock.
