Box Score 2 Ashland University's baseball team split its first two games of the 2016 season on Saturday (Feb. 27) at the USI Baseball/Dunn Hospitality Classic in Evansville, Ind.
The Eagles followed up an 11-4 defeat against Missouri-St. Louis with an 11-6 victory over Southern Indiana.
In the win over USI, Ashland scored five runs in the top of the second inning, then added four in the fifth and two in the seventh. Sophomore first baseman Greg Ludwig and junior third baseman Lance Myers each had three hits, while Ludwig, junior center fielder Carsten Dembeck and senior outfielder Mike Lewandowski each drove in two runs.
Senior Jake Baldwin earned the victory on the mound, allowing two hits and five walks while striking out eight in five scoreless innings.
The loss to UMSL saw sophomore second baseman Edmond Pilolli go 3-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases. Junior Brandyn Sittinger struck out 10 in 4 2/3 innings.
The Eagles will finish play in Indiana on Sunday (Feb. 28) at 10 a.m. against St. Joseph's.
