The Ashland University baseball team responded well following the team's loss just a few days ago.
Following a defeat to the Walsh University Cavaliers via a walk-off single, the Eagles were able to return to winning ways on Tuesday, March 24. From Tomassi Stadium and Donges Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex, the Eagles were able to take down the Gannon University Golden Knights, 8-5, with numerous players standing out.
The Eagles set the tone early when Sean Krueckeberg led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run, giving Ashland a quick 1–0 lead.
Gannon answered with a big second inning, scoring four runs to take a 4–1 advantage
In the third, though, the Eagles were able to get back into the game as Ryan Shimek delivered a key two-run double, and Chris Franks added an RBI groundout to tie the game at 4–4, serving as one of the first major turning points of the outing.
Ashland took control in the fourth inning, and from there, never really looked back.
The Eagles pushed across three runs, capitalizing on walks and productive outs from Drew Stevens, Shimek, and Franks to grab an 8–5 lead they would not give up.
At the plate, Shimek led the way with three RBIs, while Franks added two RBIs. Krueckeberg scored three times and reached base multiple times, continuing his strong day at the top of the lineup. Max Albert also chipped in with an RBI double in the seventh to provide an insurance run.
On the mound, Patrick Radigan was a difference-maker out of the bullpen, tossing four strong innings with six strikeouts while allowing just one run.
The win pushes Ashland to an overall record of 15-8 on the campaign.
The Eagles next hit the diamond on Friday, March 27, against the Thomas More Saints to open a four-game road series. They'll begin the contest at 2:00 p.m. EST.
